Our second story for World Dog Day comes from Seoul!We chatted with Kwanwoo Jin, who runs Lilion Bakery & Café (@lilion.bakery) in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, and his adorable dog, Jerry.We asked for this interview because we loved Lilion’s warm and simple menu and cozy space, and we were really inspired by how Jin Gwan-woo lives his life with his lovely furry family member. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself? Kwanwoo Jin: 안녕하세요. 저는 서울에서 릴리언을 비롯한 작은 베이커리 몇개를 운영하는 진관우 라고 합니다.부인 마리솔과 딸 유주 그리고 강아지 제리와 함께 하고 있어요.Hi, I’m Kwanwoo Jin,. I run Lilion and a few other small bakeries in Seoul. I live with my wife Marisol, our daughter Yuju, and our dog Jerry. 서울특별시 용산구 한남대로27가길 15 에 위치한 릴리언(Lilion)의 전경 Your Life with JerryFMH: 당신의 반려견 제리와 함께하는 하루는 어떤 모습일까요?Can you tell us what a day with your dog Jerry is usually like? Kwanwoo Jin: 제리는 이제 제법 나이가 들어 아기같은 얼굴과 달리 차분하고 조용하게 하루를 보내는 편이예요.가끔 제 가방에서 빵을 찾아 꺼내 먹기도 하죠. 대부분은 평온하게 하루를 보내고 있습니다.Jerry’s getting older now, so even though he still has that cute, baby-like face, he spends his days pretty calmly.Every now and then he’ll dig into my bag to grab some bread, but most of the time he just enjoys a peaceful day. FMH: 가방에서 빵을 찾아먹다니! 너무 귀여워요.보통 집에서 다같이 하루를 보낼 땐 무얼 하나요?He actually digs into your bag for bread?That’s adorable! What do you all usually do together at home during the day? Kwanwoo Jin: 우리 식구는 제리와 함께 자요. 그래서 가장 많은 시간을 포근한 침대에서 또는 함께 푹신한 쇼파 위에서음 그리고 식탁 주변에서 함께 하고 있답니다.Our family sleeps with Jerry, so we spend a lot of our time together on our cozy bed or the comfy sofa.We also hang out together around the dining table. FMH: 제리는 보통 하루 중 무얼 하는 것을 가장 좋아하나요?What does your dog usually do while you are eating? Kwanwoo Jin: 제리는 햇볕을 쬐는 것을 좋아해서 늘 해가 드는 낮 시간동안 햇살을 따라 다니며 누워있곤 해요. 거실이나... 특히 쇼파를 돌아다니면서 가장 편한 자세로 나른하게 꾸벅꾸벅 조는 것을 좋아하더라고요.Jerry loves soaking up the sun, so during the day he likes to follow the sunlight and lie wherever it hits.He especially enjoys wandering around the living room, especially the sofa, to curl up in the comfiest spot and take a lazy nap. Your Everyday Life FMH: 하루 중 가장 좋아하는 순간은 언제예요?What’s your favorite moment at home during the day? Kwanwoo Jin: 출근하기전 우리 가족 함께 다 같이 안아주는 시간이 가장 좋아요. 물론 제리도 함께요.내가 일하는 이유와 결과가 만나는 순간 같달까요.The time I love most is right before I head to work, when our whole family, including Jerry, of course! shares a hug.It feels like the moment where the reason I work and what I achieve all come together. FMH: 따뜻한 순간이네요. 그렇다면 집에서 특히 신경쓰는 작은 요소는 어떤 게 있을까요?Sounds warm...! What kind of small details matter to you in your home? Kwanwoo Jin: 흠... 작은 요소라...! 저는 개인적으로 채우는 것보다 비우는 것을 좋아해요. 저의 딸 유주와 함께하고 나서부터는 현실적으로 채우는 것은 불가능 하더라구요. 그래서 요즘은 저와 부인 마리솔 그리고 딸 유주가 모두 함께 공감할 수 있는 무언가를 선택하는 편이예요.Hmm… small details, you say! Personally, I prefer leaving space rather than filling it.Ever since I started spending time with my little one Yuju, I realized that realistically, filling everything isn’t possible.These days, I try to choose things that my wife Marisol, my daughter Yuju, and I can all appreciate together. FMH: 어떤 물건을 고를때 디자인이나 분위기 중 어떤 것을 더 고려하는 편인가요?When choosing objects, do you care more about design or atmosphere? Kwanwoo Jin: 물건들의 분위기를 많이 보는 편인 것 같아요. 디자인은 언젠가는 질리고 또 찾게되는, 그런 반복되는 패턴이 있지만 분위기는 그런 사이클이 없다고 생각해요.그냥 나와 우리 가족을 가장 잘 나타내는 분위기의 물건을 선택하려고 한답니다.I tend to focus a lot on the feel or atmosphere of things.Designs can get boring over time and you might come back to them, it’s a kind of cycle.But atmosphere doesn’t work that way. I just try to pick things that really reflect me and my family.
